Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research Conference

On April 19th, 2019, undergraduate researchers from all over campus will be displaying their hard work at the 2019 Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research Conference. The conference is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Moss Arts Center. Poster sessions are held on an hourly basis, with different presenters each hour. Every poster session will occur on stage in the Fife Theatre.

There is also a keynote speaker- Dr. Dennis Dean, the director of the Fralin Life Science Institute, will host an alumni panel on the topic of how undergraduate research influenced their future work. Dr. Dean will present from 11:10 to 12:15 in the Fife Theatre.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students, faculty, and community members to come together and witness the broad spectrum of important work that Virginia Tech does! The conference is not limited by major or field, so will demonstrate research in fields from engineering to linguistics.

Interested in some specific previews of the work that will be presented on Friday? I work with LEWAS, the Learning Enhanced Watershed Assessment System lab. We monitor the water quality and quantity in Stroubles Creek, and will present on our interdisciplinary solutions to the communication problems within our system. While attending a poster presentation workshop for the Dennis Dean Conference, I met a senior linguistics major working on the difference in conventionally polite vocal tone in languages with and without pitch accents. Just these demonstrate the broad spectrum in the research work that will be presented!

The website below has scheduling information and a book of abstracts for presentations that will be displayed on April 19th:
